It is a gentle hands-on bodywork method for restoring balance and harmony to the vital life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki works by encouraging your body’s own healing abilities and energies to restore you to a state of good health and well being.

What to expect during a treatment.

You will typically be lying down but will remain fully clothed during a Reiki treatment. Each treatment usually lasts from an hour to an hour and a half during which the Reiki practitioner will place her hands on or over different locations on the body, usually beginning at your head and working down the body to your feet. You will then be asked to turn over and treatment will continue on your back. Each position is held for a length of time, typically 3 to 5 minutes before moving to the next position.

It is common for the person being treated to experience sensations of warmth or tingling coming from the Reiki practitioner’s hands. If there is a specific health issue that you are seeking relief from, you may notice heat in your area of concern even when the Reikist’s hands are focused on other areas of your body.

Many people report a feeling of well being and deep relaxation. Your breathing and heart rate may slow as they would in deep meditation and it is not uncommon to fall asleep during a treatment. Afterwards, most people report feeling invigorated, rebalanced, and rested.

Who should receive Reiki?

Reiki is a safe and highly effective complementary therapy to all forms of health care and is particularly good for treating stress and anxiety.   As there is no direct pressure applied by the practitioner it is ideal for anyone for whom a more traditional massage would be uncomfortable such as the elderly, a pregnant mom, or someone recovering from surgery.

It is also a wonderful way to pamper yourself or someone you love with a revitalizing “battery boost”.

Beth Vanover, Hands on Healer

I was aware that I had been given a gift early in life. Even when I was young my hands would get hot and tingle when in the presence of someone in pain, either emotional or physical. I discovered that by touching the person I could decrease and often eliminate their discomfort.

When I learned about Reiki as a healing modality, it seemed like a good fit for what I was already doing intuitively, so I sought out a Reiki Master/Teacher and learned how to better control my abilities. I have studied with three different Reiki Masters on my journey to Reiki Master/Teacher, absorbing their techniques as well as developing my own along the way.

I have many clients that were referred to my practice by physicians who have seen the effectiveness of Reiki energy therapy. I have helped with situations from bringing dangerously high blood pressure down to getting a patient with MS back to on her feet, but my specialty is emotional balance. I can often sense where emotional energy is blocked and help get my clients ‘unstuck’ so that their energy flows correctly, bringing them back into a healthy balance.
